The Porsche Principle is our Magna Carta. It is based on values and philosophies that together create our added value. The Porsche Principle is about a company that consistently goes it own way. In public life because we not only decline subsidies. In society as a whole because - despite our exclusive products - social acceptance is paramount for us. On the labor market, because to secure our long-term success we don't eliminate jobs, we secure and create them. On the business base issue, because we are committed to Germany and are a constant reminder to others that one can succeed here too.
With the "Made in Germany" cachet, and because of it.
Incidentally, the Porsche Principle is a matter of our own standards. Faith in our own virtues. We have very definite ideas on how we develop and produce our vehicles. In addition to maximum cost-effectiveness, they must comply with the high demands we make. What counts here are quality, environmental protection, safety. And, naturally, fascination. All this is important. So important that we integrate our suppliers in the development process from the very first new car concept, and demand a lot of them. Because we also demand a lot of ourselves. And believe in partnership. The Porsche Principle is also about responsibility. To the customer, and to our own heritage. We never forget our origins. And they are rooted in motorsport, where we have written history on the track. We concentrate on what we best: building sports cars.

Basically, the start of it all is the idea, the concept, the principle. Basically, it's already the name 'Dr. Ing. h.c.F. Porsche AG'. Unusual, perhaps. But fitting. Because the guiding principle of the company, the added value of Porsche, is expressed in this 'Ing.' - an abbreviation for the title 'Engineer'. Basically, it should be written large. 'ING'. As large as the engineering artistry which we at times push to the limits.
Especially at our Research & Development Centre in Weissach. Perhaps this too is the Porsche Principle. That we constantly seek new ideas on our own initiative. Beginning right at the Weissach Research & Development Centre, the nucleus of our know-how. Here 3,550 patents valid worldwide are administered, with another 100 added each year. From the engineering office in Stuggart's KronenstraBe, which Professor Ferdinand Porsche founded in 1931 as an ultra-modern service company for the automotive industry, there developed in 1972 the Porsche think tank in Weissach. With workshops, test benches, laboratories, measuring centres, wind tunnel and crash test facilities. VarioCam Plus, PCCB, Variable Turbine Geometry. It's not least of all the technical evolutions that give our sports cars a soul. That credibly underscore this special yearning to break out of the box. The fact that the still on the road, is attributable to the genes built in at the factory.
'Ing.' is something like our genetic code. Because Professor Ferdinand Porsche, our founding father, was an automotive engineer. He developed among other things, cars to win races. We have successfully carried on the tradition. We have won the Le Mans 24 Hours race 16 times, the Targa Florio and Paris-Dakar several times and, with our engines, the Formula 1 World Championship three times. These were very different vehicles of very different generations. But they were always Porsche vehicles. With these triumphs, one gains experience. We collected it, bundled it with all the added know-how accumulated over the years, and developed from it a singular sports car concept. This laid the foundation for our present day model range. It is a legacy, but a very vital one.

1964 PORSCHE 911
The 911 was premiered at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1963 as the Porsche 901. But a French car company claimed copyright over the use of a model numbers with zero in the middle. Porsche therefore renamed the 901 the 911 - that three figure number which still raises the heartbeat of every sports car fan.
Porsche had been working on the shape of the bodywork for the 911 as early as the fifties, in the days when the 356 was still the marque's crowd puller. The prototype mutated over time to a four-seater but was not approved by Ferry Porsche. The final shape was the work of Porsche's son Ferdinand Alexander.
It was decided from the start that the successor to the 356 should also have a rear engine. The choice fell to the six-cylinder Boxer engine with axial fan and - due to the greater speed reserves - an upper camshaft on each side. The camshaft on each side. The camshaft was driven via chains after vertical shafts and toothed belts were disregarded. The 356 frame and chassis were replaced by new designs. The result was a car about which Ferry Porsche later said: "The 911 stamped the unmistakable character of the Porsche sports car".

This means that anyone dealing with PFS knows that they will be dealt with fairly, dependably, with great integrity and in the spirit of partnership. That way, the best solutions will arise for our customers.

As an exception to the rule, let us confess that not much will change at Porsche in the coming years. In principle. Meaning: our standards will continue to be the highest. We will carry on the traditions that have proven their merits. We will come up with surprising innovations. And, wherever sensible, reinvent ourselves.
We find this exciting. Of course, we have planned a bit in advance since we are not particularly fond of unpleasant surprises. We haven't taken this step to sell our ideas. On the contrary, our objective is to secure - and strengthen - our inventive potential. The youngest and most comprehensive model range of all time is a case in point; the cycles are in place. The Panamera, with which we will address new customers, is already an established element. But whatever we build, it will always be a true Porsche. That's a promise.
With our goals and visions, we look far beyond the short-term horizons. Which enables us to secure our independence in the long run, and to flexibly respond to fluctuations in the marketplace.
